Many of the GOP's base will be demoralized and angry by Republican stupidity to show up in 2014. I myself noticed that the Ocho Guest Worker Program allows the temporary worker to bring their family and children to the USA. Compare that to how Hong Kong handles their guest workers. Tell me which one is more effective and which one is stupid.
Oh, but you say, this is just a short term hit, long term this will benefit the Republicans, right? Wrong. This stupid deal adds more Democrats to their voter rolls.
But the worst thing about this deal is that it won't stop a repeat of another wave of illegal immigration. It just presses the reset button.

My Alternative to the Ocho Plan
that is not reliant on border security with Mexico.
As long as there are democrats, you cannot rely on them to secure the borders.
- First, eliminate access to free K-12 public school education for future illegal aliens. (If USA is serious about curbing illegal immigration, stop providing free stuff to non citizen illegals. Prop 187 pls)
- No more automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S. to 2 non-American parents. (ie plug the anchor baby loophole)
As long as there are democrats, you cannot rely on them to secure the borders.

Rubio Should Walk Away from "Gang of Ocho" ASAP
1) because Dems might ram this thing without explaining to public what's in it.
2) if they did that, Rubio is screwed whether the bill passes or not.
3) if the bill passes, people will find out about the awful parts of the bill later, and the base will blame the "Gang of 8" for capitulation.
4) if the bill fails to pass congress, Obama will step in and pass the "bipartisan" immigration bill that rubio co-sponspored by Executive Order. Which means, if he runs for president in 2016, he ends up in Mitt Romney's situation with Obamacare/Romneycare, since he cannot go hard against Obamnesty EO (identical to "Gangof8" plan) without looking inconsistent or hypocritical.

Can you trust the "Gang of Ocho" on Immigration?
the problem with GOP elites is that most republicans don't trust them on immigration reform. they think the "gang of eight" is going to pass an amnesty plan as quickly as possible before the critics begin to notice the awful parts of the bill.
Hope the GOP elders doesnt "fastbreak" this immigration bill without explaining to the public what's in it first.
Republicans are in a tight spot. If a bill doesn't pass, they will be blamed.
If a bill does pass, they will also be blamed--especially after republican base finds out what is actually in the amnesty bill.
So my advice for the GOP elites are two things
1) do the immigration negotiations OPENLY and PUBLICLY, not in secret, like what the "gang of 8" is doing. Put it on CSPAN. I don't care if democrats grandstand on this issue. let them.
2) Put the finished product amnesty plan to a national referendum.

Instapundit advice to GOP: "What you can do, however, is send a lot of bills to the Senate that it will be embarrassing to let die."
i can think of a few that have a significant majority support:
1) End affirmative action based on race.
2) Voter ID laws
3) Anything related to Fast and Furious
4) English as the official language of the U.S.

Why the Republicans refused to vote for Boehner's "Plan B"
because they will be voting to RAISE taxes. It will be in their record.
Brit hume asked on twitter:
So how will Republicans respond if taxes were automatically raised once cliff is reached? The will submit new proposal to lower taxes for everybody (100%).
Obama will insist on cutting taxes for 98% of the population (those making 250K and above).
Bipartisan compromise is reached once moderate republicans and democrats settle for tax cuts for 99% of the population (only millionaires and billionaires taxes will go up under this proposal)
Brit hume asked on twitter:
If we go off the cliff & tax rates go up. Dems in new Cong. move to lower them for nearly all. Will Rs who resisted Boehner say no again? No, because they are not against voting to CUT taxes for nearly all.

UPDATED (12/3/12): The Immigration Reform Plan Marco Rubio Should Be Presenting
Here is my 4 Step Immigration Reform Plan for America. The emphasis is on DISCOURAGING more illegal immigration in the FUTURE:
UPDATE: Mickey Kaus tweets:
You can't stop poor people from coming to the U.S. to work. You can only limit the types of jobs they can get. Most Americans do not buy the idea that preventing illegal Mexicans from doing agriculture work in the U.S. is "less harsh". Many admire these people for their willingness to take these difficult, low paying jobs.
What you can do though is stop subsidizing the free stuff for illegal aliens in the future (aka nationalizing Prop 187). Starting with free public education. Because every undocumented kid in public school today will be a future recipient of Dream Act II 15 to 20 years from now (I'm assuming DREAM Act I passes during Obama's 2nd term.)
The ideal immigration reform plan should be similar to Hong Kong's: Allow (poor) workers IN, but keep their children and non-working dependents/spouse OUT (unless said worker can afford private schooling and cost of living expenses for family)
UPDATE: I'd offer a pathway to citizenship to these people 20 years after getting their legalization, but it will depend on whether illegal immigration in the U.S. has dropped significantly since. But I would fasttrack naturalization for those who are outstanding young illegal alien achievers and those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
UPDATE: Hong Kong natives protest recent immigraton ruling on Filipino domestic helpers.
1) First, eliminate access to free K-12 public school education for future illegal aliens.
2) No more automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S. to 2 non-American parents.
3) Once both are done, I would give legal residency and work permits for qualified "Dreamers" who are not recent arrivals. No limits will be placed on the types of jobs they can apply for.
4) Have a guest worker program with Mexico limited to agriculture sector and those who want to work as nannies/maids.Why deny free K-12 public education to illegal aliens? So their parents wouldn't bother to bring them over to the states. Because it cost money to educate them for free. Besides, every country in the world provides free education to it's young citizens. Border states like California, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico should not be burdened with educating Mexico's children. That is Mexico's responsibility. If foreigners want to educate their children in the U.S., enroll them in American private schools.
UPDATE: Mickey Kaus tweets:
I think you have 2 reverse a SCOTUS decision 2 do that (deny undoc. kids free k-12 educ). E-verify seems less harsh magnet-enderLess harsh, but also less effective.
